Buck Sirus 297

Buck Sirus 297 is a decent lightweight knife in the middle price range.

Buck Sirus

Blade Length: 3.25 in (8.26 cm)
Closed Length: 4.5 in (11.43 cm)
Open Overall Length: 7.75 in (19.69 cm)

The 297 models come with 3.25″ stainless steel blades with drop point tips. Anodized aluminum grips make for a lightweight design. The 297 model comes in several colors with optional sleek graphic designs, such as the Red Gothic Skull design (297G2) or RealTreeā„¢ (BU297CM). A stainless steel clip provides the option to secure the knife to your pocket, belt, or boot, and with the lightweight 3.9oz design, you’ll barely notice it.

I’ll go ahead and get it out of the way, my only real problem with this knife is that it’s a bit more costly than the others with a similar design in my collection. With the graphic designs, I first thought the marketing guys were trying to slip one past me to younger buyers, but Buck Sirus is making well balanced tool out of high quality materials. The opening and locking mechanisms are simple, but solid, and the pivot for the blade is equally solid with no extra movement. The blade is 420HC steel and is easy to apply an edge. One other minor problem with the knife, though this is more a dislike with all open-back designs and not just this one, coins will sometimes get jammed in the handle if you’re carrying it in your pocket.

This is a solid knife. It would make a great gift for that teenager that’s been bugging you for that ounce of trust that comes with owning a knife (make sure they give you a penny, knives aren’t gifts!)
